Christof is red with embarrassment between the Provost's admonishments, his own defeat and the jeering of the crowd. He bends over and reclaims his sword, then bows. "You as well."
The provost then turns to you - "This is a quite impressive start - continue like this and in a few years you'll be after MY job! You can have a few minutes to rest as reward for your victory - When you're ready, we'll continue with the next of your opponents."

After a few minutes of sitting, Lothar rises and says,"I am ready for my next bout."

The provost signals one of the men who is holding a Gross Messer (a long, one handed cutting sword, that orginated in Germany. The full name roughly translates to "Giant Knife").
"Jakob, you'll be next. Good luck."
Jakob assumes an Aggressive High Back stance. "Ready yourself, Lothar."

"Well, glad to see you're feeling sporting. Defend yourself!"
Initiative time - I think it's clear what he's doing, but I'll pretend it's a mystery until the reveal anyway.

Jakob declares a Beat for 7 dice (2 of which are Aggressive stance bonus), which Lothar will parry for 7 (2 of which are Defensive stance bonus).
A Beat is a special attack which can be used by at the beginning of the first exchange after a pause - it lets you try and knock their weapon aside to make things easier for you.
Lothar rolls 3, and Jakob rolls 5.
Lothar loses 4 dice from his CP in the next exchange (2*Jakob's Margin of Success), and cannot use his Messer to defend himself in the next exchange either (It's been knocked away for the next second or so.)
Not too much to describe - He smacks Lothar's sword. (Insert innuendo here)

Jakob decides to do what he knows works and attempt a Disarm (1 activation cost) for 5 dice. Lothar, with few other options, spends his one remaining die on a Full Evasion.
Jakob rolls 2 successes, Lothar rolls 1 - The attack is succesful. Lothar manages to keep his hand on his weapon, however.
Jakob uses his pommel and his knee to try and wrench the sword out of Lothar's hand, but Lothar is able to hold on and free his weapon.
Jakob says "Good to see you keep a better hold on your weapon than Christof."(From the sidelines, a muffled "Fuck you." is heard.) Lothar responds "Yes, but do you?"[/b]
(Now, some of you may wonder, how are they having a dialog in between two combat rounds that average about a second and a half of length each. The answer? Talking is a free action.)

New round begins, and Jakob swings for 6 at Lothars legs - Lothar attempts to Counter for 4 (2 activation).
They each roll 3 successes, meaning the exchange is completely indecisive.
Jakob swings low, but Lothar's sword is there to meet him in time to ruin his strike, though he is unable to line up a retaliatory strike.

Jackob makes a cut to the midsection for 5, Lothar attempts a Full Evade for 4.
They both roll 4 successes (with some pretty extreme rolls on both sides. Lothar didn't have anything below 8!)
That means this exchange too makes no real change in the state of the fight.
Jakob cuts horizontally accross Lothar's midsection, but the attack fails to find it's target as Lothar hastily backpedals - but Jakob keeps up with him.

Jakob declares a three dice horizontal cut, Lothar full evades for 4.
Jakob declares that he is Feinting, moving his cut to a diagonal down and adding 4 dice (which means he needs to pay an additional 4 in activation costs).
Jakob rolls 5 successes on his 7 dice, and Lothar rolls straight successes yet again, meaning Jakob hits with MOS 1.
Jakob begins a horizontal cut, but just after Lothar begins his dodge he moves to a new attack line, hoping to make Lothar dodge right into his weapon. Lothar ALMOST makes it out of the way. Almost.
"HOLD!"

The two men lower their weapons, and the provost begins to speak.
"Okay, gentlemen. That hit looked like it wouldn't have been major, but it was still a hit. You guys want to call it a slight win for Jakob, or have Lothar continue at some sort of disadvantage? Maybe make him swap to his other arm to represent his sword arm being wounded or something?
If we do stop it now, I won't hold that against you when considering you for advancement, of course. The fight was nearly a draw anyway."

"Alright, Jakob is done. Let's do Pole Weapons next, for some variety. You don't have one, so we brought one for you. Gunnar, you'll be facing him."
Gunnar tosses you a Quarterstaff and then takes a Halberd from one of the other fighters.
The staff has TNs of - 7 Swing, 6 Thrust, 6 Defense. It is Long Reach, and Two Handed. Given the nature of the exercise, the damage is kinda irrelevant.
