Due to a lack of posting, I'll assume that everyone is ready to continue.
Arthur, Shadow, Aer, Amber, and Zell return to the campsite around the same time. We all sit down and make ourselves comfortable. "Well, I'll start. I went down to the church and spoke with the cleric there and he gave me 30 vials of holy water, so I'll give 4 vials to each of you. Just so you all know, this will harm Undead and Evil outsiders like acid to a human." Zell passes out the the holy water. "That is all I could get."
Aer says, "I couldn't see much from the air, the canopy above the Marsh is too thick to land or see through. I did find a path entering the marsh and looked around. It does look like there will be plenty of room to move around when we get there."
Arthur steps forward pulls out a rolled up piece of parchment. "After speaking to the villagers I found this old map of the marsh and I spoke with some of the hunters and gathered intel on the creatures in the marsh. One of the more commonly seen creatures are described as a horrible mix of crustacean, insect, and serpent, also several large creatures can be heard thrashing around at night time."
Sutton - Fixed a broken bold tag in the final speech segment for you.

Verrdat takes the vials and places them into a belt pouch - hopefully they'll survive transit nicely there. (Not in the backpack because it's got a Portable Ram inside it, and that just seems like a disaster waiting to happen. And, just to be sure, I'm NOT putting them in the pouch I have full of caltrops. That'd just be silly.)
"Crustacean, insect AND serpent? That's enough to make ME feel mundane by comparison! Also, these must be some very literate hunters - good for them.
If the creatures are heard thrashing about in the night, then it stands to reason they are Nocturnal in nature - meaning a daytime attack could avoid at least some of the danger, I'd imagine."

"True, but you are more effective at night than during th day."
I need a Knowledge (Nature) check from everyone. Arthur got a 7 and Zell got an 18, both failed.

"Yes - but I function better in the day then you guys would function in a pitch-dark night as I'd imagine would occur in an area so thickly forested you can't see the ground from the air through the canopy, so I think it'd be more reasonable to inflict heavily shaded daylight on me than that on all of you."

1d20+3: Rolled a nat 20.
Aer takes the vials and puts it in his belt pouch."That is very true. As I recall this creature is called a chuul. Its an aquatic based creature that loves swampy areas for one reason, they like the hide by the shore in murky water and wait for prey that is on land or in the water. Once they hear the nearby prey, the creatures use the element of surprise to take it down. No matter the time of day, we should be cautious. I am able in any lighting conditions so the time of day matters not to me."

22, but don't see how it much matters if someone else already got it.

"So - we stay away from the water (though, in a swamp that'll be an achievement in and of itself) if at all possible, and see if we can minimize confrontation with these things - From what you've said, they don't exactly match the description of our target, so I'd think fighting them would be a waste of valuable resources, given that we haven't heard of them mobilizing to pillage the townsfolk or anything like that. So - next on the agenda - Now that you're here, paladin - we need to talk strategy."

Amber seems to take a mental note about the chuul's combat behavior then says, "My place in a fight is at the front." She then looks over at Verrdat, "I'm sure you'll approve,as that will let you strike me down if I'm lying."

Due to a lack of posting (again!) I'm going to continue.
We gather up our gear and head to the Dire Marsh. It is 5 miles away so we get there at about 10:30 A.M. (2 and a half hour travel). When we get there, we assume a battle formation. We take a V-shaped formation with Arthur in hybrid form at point, Verrat to his left, Amber at his right, Pan, on the left 5 feet back, Shadow on the right 5 feet back Aer in the middle behind Arthur, and Zell at the rear in hybrid form as well. This should compliment everyone's strength's and cover our weaknesses. Any complaints or other idea's PM me or post. Light shines through the canopy dimly, giving the marsh an eerie light. Visibility is 60ft normal, 120ft lowlight. Darkvision doesn't apply.

"This doesn't seem right... its too quiet."

"Well - If there was anyone here trying to be quiet, they just heard you. Try to avoid that in future." Verdatt says as moves through the muck, nearly wading as much as anything. This place doesn't seem quite as dire as described. Thank the gods for that.
I've got my Glaive readied in case of trouble, and am in Psionic Focus (Being able to just spend as many full-rounds as you need in meditation to ready things is convenient)
For reference, when I'm in psionic focus, I have -
40ft base land speed (Speed of Thought Feat) Can expend focus to take 15 on a Concentration check (Default part of Psionic Focus) Can expend focus to gain 2d6 additional damage on a melee weapon strike (Psionic Weapon feat, must be declared BEFORE I roll my attack)

Zell says, "Hmm, well with 'Queen Clanks-a-lot' over there, slilence is imposible."
Amber glares at Zell over her shoulder for moment, as she turns her head back, she seems to stiffen. Arthur suddenly dropps into a fighting stance a roars, "TO ARMS!" Before he finishes, Pan and Aer also spot three Chuul's hiding in the water.
Amber, Arthur, Pan, and Aer get to roll Initiative for the surprise round.
