Talbith sauntered into the arena, waving to the crowd. He stopped for a bit and worked the crowd before slinging his crossbow from his shoulder. He went over his mental pre-battle checklist. "Scrolls are rolled, check. Bolts are accessible, check, Bow is winding properly, check. Bayonet mount secure, check. All set, ready to rock."
Can I take a hide check to assume an ambush position to sneak attack the enemy with a crossbow bolt as they enter?

Yes you can As Talbith enters, the Arena starts to change. Large stones begin to rise from the ground capable of giving full to partial cover. For non-front line combatants, the arena will change to aid your abilities.

"Ah, the wonders of reactive terrain. Gotta love it."
1d20+7=23 on the hide check.
I'm crouched behind low cover with my crossbow braced on the top of it, readying a standard action to fire on the opponent as soon as the announcer calls the battle's beginning.

"Hehhe. All too easy."
Attack roll is... 15+3 = 18. Does that hit his Flat-Footed AC?
If so, deals 10 damage.
Rolling intiative = 22, not using a re-roll.

"Agh, I so dislike it when they remember to pack a crossbow... Time for the more expensive option."
Free action to let go of my crossbow, letting it rest on top of the slap of stone. Move to draw my scroll of Sleep. I begin casting, spell will take effect at my next turn due to it's 1 round casting time. UMD check = 17+7 = 24, more than enough for the first level scroll. I'm casting it on Torus, obviously.
He carefully draws the vellum scroll from his belt and removes the tie. He looks up over the stone and begins to read, arcane energy crackling about the air as he does so.
"Ego to order vos domio!"

Torus seeing the energy crackle around his opponent drops his crossbow and draws his longsword with surprising speed. He then charges at Talbith, but can't get close enough to attack
Free action to drop weapon Quick Draw feat 20ft move speed made a double move to close in

"Okay, let's see if that mage deserves his pay..."
Standard to complete the casting, spell takes effect now. DC 14 (11 from spell level, 3 from my Int) will save or sleep. Free action to drop the now inert scroll. Move action to grab my crossbow, mostly for the use of the bayonet.

The spell discharges and strikes Torus, the energies circle him but with an effort he resists the spell. He grins and attacks with his sword, but Talbith twists to the right and the sword glances of his armored forearm.
Will roll 13 + 1 =14 BARELY made it Attack roll 7+ 4 = 11 miss

"I should have known better than to buy discount!"
EDIT REDUX: After having the situation explained more clearly by Sean, I'm going to disengage and double-move, putting me 60 feet out.

MOTHER%$@#&%!! Damn fast little... Torus moves to retrieve his crossbow, but ducks down behind cover 10 feet from it

"Hmmm, if he's behind cover, he can't see me, can he.... hehhehe."
Move action to move to another cover (total if possible), MS is a natural 20 and hide at the new location is 13+7 = 20.
Converting my Standard down to a move to reload my Crossbow, 23 bolts remaining.
So, I should be at a new cover within 30 feet of the previous, with LOF to it, but he has no idea I'm not where he saw me go last round. Perfect.

Torus pulls out his last Cure Light wounds potion and drinks it, he then moves to a crouch and begins looking for Talbith
Heals 5 points = 7 HP Spot roll 4 + 3= 7 fail

" Ah, he knows I'm not still there. I guess I'll have to wait and see."
Readied action to shoot if I get a clear (no cover) shot within 30 feet.
Otherwise, I just maintain my hiding spot and hope for the best.
